PE

We love sport here at Sacred Heart and are really proud of the wide range we have on offer both in our curriculum and in our wider enhanced offer.

The intent of our PE curriculum is to deliver a curriculum which is accessible to all and that will maximise the development of every child’s ability and achievement in PE. They will know more about physical activity and keeping healthy, remember more about the physical activity they participate in and learn about and understand how to use and apply this knowledge to impact upon their own physical activity, participation and healthy lifestyle.

Below you will see this terms PE overview highlighting all the different opportunities that we offer our children.

Implementation

  • Children are given clear learning goals and expectations. All lesson plans have Learning Intentions with the steps to success.
  • The lessons are clear for teachers to follow.
  • The lessons ensure that ALL children are catered for, including the less able and most able – this is clearly highlighted for teachers within the planning.
  • Many lessons include accompanying videos which model powerful demonstrations and through these the children develop a picture of what success looks like and can focus on it.
  • Lesson plans provide children with the opportunity to develop their skills, build on prior knowledge & understanding and to challenge all abilities.
  • The lessons allow for feedback and self/peer assessment through our progress-o-meters.
  • The children are also able to develop cognitive skills such as, decision making and analysis of performance.
  • The lesson plans allow for mastery of key skills.

We offer lots of opportunities for children to take part in competitive sports-these range from football, hockey, netball, rugby and multi-sports tournaments to tennis, cross-country and dance competitions.

IMPACT

Effective use of our scheme of work ensures:

All pupils receive a high-quality (HQ) experience of PE.  All staff can feel confident that they are delivering HQ PE

Staff confidence of delivery through competence and improved knowledge of resources/subject area to be delivered.

Consistency in delivery across the key stages.  All staff use the same framework for lesson delivery and assessment.

In our  Sports Personality of the Term award, we recognise all those pupils who show a great attitude and commitment to sports. We celebrate pupils who listen carefully to the coaches and teachers and show great willingness to participate fully in all PE lessons. We admire those who demonstrate the qualities needed to be a team player and a good sport and who show resilience and co- operation in their sporting endeavours.
